The Unspoken Truth: Why Are Cycles Taboo?

The Unspoken Truth!

It's that time of the month. You wake up dreading it. If you're like me, you feel it coming a week ahead of time! But my question is—why are our cycles taboo? Why don't we talk more about them?

Growing up, many of us were only educated on what to use, not the whys of the matter. Womanhood is such a beautiful experience, yet it's fleeting. It's high time we break the silence and embrace open conversations about our natural rhythms.

Society's Expectations: Pushing Through the Pain

For years, I dreaded my cycle when she arrived. I forced myself to power through work, chores, motherly duties—the list continues. Naturally, when she came, there was a huge dip in my energy. My brain didn't operate the same way during the visit. My appetite shifted. My body felt alien. It was almost like going through a week of childbirth (ladies who've given birth, you know exactly what I'm talking about!).

Yet society dictates that we just keep pushing like nothing is happening. Jeesh! I was this girl up until about eight years ago. But why do we have to pretend everything is fine when it's not?

Embracing Our Cyclical Nature

Women, we are cyclical beings. It's in our feminine nature. But we've been indoctrinated at every corner, told how we should respond, how we should act, how we should be. Ha! It's quite comical, the world we live in now. It's such a male-dominated place. When will we all wake up and take our power back as the soft, warm, cyclical, nurturing beings we were meant to be?

Okay, maybe the soft life isn't for everyone. However, sis, I love this for you. Embracing our natural cycles doesn't make us weak; it makes us powerful. It allows us to relax, chill, and find clarity in a chaotic world.

Visualizing A Soft Life

Picture this: You wake naturally to the sun rising. No alarm. You gently stretch, drink lemon water, and journal. You turn on your fave jams, hit the shower, and begin your day. Go back and read that scenario again. Wait—no cell phone is glued to your hands there. Lol! This is an example of a simple, soft morning.

If you're rolling your eyes—maybe the soft life isn't for you—or thinking you need more, that's okay too. High-maintenance soft life is a thing also. Your level of need is your discretion 💗. The goal is to wind down and design a life that brings you peace and joy.

The Period Pause: Time to Recalibrate

As for that time of the month, it's called a period for a reason. We are supposed to pause and take a much-needed reset. It gives us time to recalibrate and recover from life! Can we be honest here? Life truly has a way of becoming too much.

So we plan vacations, take mental health days, heck, we even take half a day from work to take the babies for their checkups. But what if we've been going about it the wrong way? Maybe society is wrong. Maybe you don't have to be that overly strong person you've been in the past.

The Danger of Always Being "Strong"

Yes, there are moments where you'll need to have and show strength. But there's truly such a thing as being too strong—meaning you're always going, never carving out the space and time for self. Showing up for everyone but YOU!

At some point, you will have to slow down and re-center your life. If you keep pushing through life and never allow yourself to be fully present with you, everything else around you will fail. I've been here before! Children misbehaving, life always feeling overwhelming, career feels iffy—just an overall feeling of sinking and not being able to catch your breath. Don't be this person.

A Call to Embrace Your Metamorphosis

Spend time in solitude. Go on long walks. Be present in your mind, body, and spirit. Show yourself the same grace you give to everyone else. Take the time to relax, chill, and wind down. Clarity comes when we make space for it.

Build a life that you never have to run away from. Have the courage to love yourself enough to know you deserve it. You want so much out of life, but are struggling to find the momentum to move forward. I get it—change is scary. You have no idea what's going to happen or what you'll look like at the end of it.

Take the Leap: Your New World Awaits

Can you find the faith to know that at the end of your metamorphosis, you'll be happy, healthy, abundant, loved, and authentically you? If you are ready to do the work, reach out today.
